Oklahoma parental
Choice tax credit
The Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credit helps make private school and homeschooling more affordable for Oklahoma families. The program provides refundable tax credits on a per-student, per-year basis and is administered by the Oklahoma Tax Commission.
Oklahoma Parental Choice Tax Credits
Private School Tax Credits
Families with children attending participating private schools may qualify for a refundable tax credit of $5,000 to $7,500 per student, depending on household income. The credit is equal to the cost of tuition and eligible fees or the maximum credit amount, whichever is less.
Because the credit is available for each eligible student, the savings can add up quickly. For example, a household earning less than $75,000 annually with three children attending private school could receive up to $22,500 in refundable tax credits.
With average private school tuition in Oklahoma costing less than $7,000 per year, the tax credit can cover most or all tuition costs for many families, making private school a realistic and affordable option for thousands of Oklahoma students.
To apply:
Enroll your child in a participating private school.
Obtain an Enrollment Verification Number (EVN) from your school.
Submit an application through the Oklahoma Tax Commission. A separate application is required for each eligible student.
Eligible families may also be able to combine the Parental Choice Tax Credit with the Lindsey Nicole Henry (LNH) Scholarship.
Home School Tax Credits
Oklahoma families who homeschool may qualify for a refundable tax credit of up to $1,000 per eligible student to help offset qualified educational expenses.
Unlike the private school tax credit, homeschool families do not apply in advance. Eligible taxpayers claim the credit when filing their Oklahoma income tax return.
